Orders are currently being accepted for Ontario’s official 2006 Building Code Compendium.  The official Compendium is only issued by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and is available from Publications Ontario

The Official 2006 Building Code Compendium


The Official 2006 Building Code Compendium contains:

  • Ontario’s Building Code (O.Reg 350/06, as amended)
  • The Building Code Act, 1992
  • Essential regulatory Supplementary Standards
  • Highlights of major changes from the 1997 Building Code
  • Preface/Guide to the use of the objective-based code
  • Imperial equivalents and conversions
  • Appendix notes

The Compendia are scheduled to be shipped in January, 2007.

Key Features of the Official Compendium:

  • The Building Code is specially formatted, using clear page headings, and fully indexed for easier reference
  • The Preface contains the:
    • Guide to the use of the objective-based code format
    • Highlights of major technical code changes to the new code
    • Guideline to request changes to the new code
  • Supplementary Standards are legal requirements referenced by the Code.  The 13 Supplementary Standards referenced by the code are necessary to:
    • Use the new objective-based format (attribute objectives and functional statements to code requirements)
    • Undertake structural design (climactic and seismic data)
    • Design and assess compliance with:
      • Fire performance ratings of materials
      • Measures for fire safety in highrise buildings
      • Approved sewage treatment units
      • Wood guards for houses and small buildings
      • Requirements for soil gas control
      • Fire and sound resistance of building assemblies
      • Structural requirements for farm buildings
      • Energy Conservation requirements
  • Two volumes – over 2,000 pages
  • Imperial conversions embedded within Part 9, Housing and Small Buildings
  • Appendices provide the Ministry’s explanatory material on the application of the Code
  • Available in durable and user-friendly formats (binder and soft-cover)

    • Building Code compendia ordered before January 1, 2007 are estimated to be delivered in January 2007.
    • Some Code users may only require either the Building Code Act, 1992 or the Building Code (O.Reg. 350/06).  Both of these documents can be obtained online, at no charge, using E-laws at www.e-laws.gov.on.ca.  Publications Ontario also carries a print edition of the official version of O.Reg. 350/06 in soft cover format for $15.00 per copy.
    • Code users may download amendments free of charge from Publications Ontario’s Web site (http://www.publications.serviceontario.ca).
