Code Consultation 2009

Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) is  undertaking a consultation to seek public input on the content of proposed changes to the 2006 Building Code.

MMAH is proposing changes to the 2006 Building Code that would support the economy by:

  • clarifying the Code to provide certainty,
  • streamlining the Code and its enforcement, and
  • enhancing design flexibility to promote innovation.

Several of the amendments proposed in this consultation would promote a greener Ontario by:

  • strengthening the Code’s requirements for water conservation, and
  • enhancing and clarifying Code requirements which support energy efficiency.

Ministry stakeholders and the public are encouraged to review the consultation paper and provide comments on the proposed changes.

The consultation period ends October 30th, 2009. The steps to provide your comments are outlined in the attached consultation paper.

Following the consultation period, the proposed changes and the related public comments will be reviewed as recommendations are made to the Minister.
